Listen uses Apple's built-in voices. Words are highlighted as they are spoken, so you can listen, read along, or do both.
Open a reading and tap Listen
Choose a saved reading or the sample. If Original text and Explanation are both available, select the version you want to hear first. Tap the play control labeled Listen.
Pause, resume, or stop
Tap Pause reading to take a break, then Resume reading to continue. Stop reading ends playback. Changing the selected version stops the current speech.
Keep the spoken paragraph in view
Follow spoken text is on by default. Scrolling yourself pauses automatic following. While listening, use Follow spoken text when it appears to follow again. You can also change this preference in Settings.
Change the voice settings
Open Settings from the home screen. Under Listening, choose Listening language and adjust Speaking speed. Tap the speaker icon, Preview voice, to hear the setting. Voice availability depends on your device and downloaded languages.
No sound?
Check the device's media volume and whether audio is going to Bluetooth headphones or another speaker. Try Preview voice in Settings. Built-in listening works offline with voices available on the device.
