Control AI sharing permissions

Choose when photos go to OpenAI and readings go to Microsoft, and change those permissions in Settings.

For iPhone & iPad · App version 1.0 · Updated

The app asks before you first use each service. OpenAI processes photos for Read and Explain. Microsoft receives a reading only when you choose Immersive Reader.

  1. Read the permission prompt

Before the first photo request, you will see Share photos with OpenAI? Before the first Immersive Reader session, you will see Share readings with Microsoft? Each prompt explains what is shared and includes a privacy-policy link.

  2. Allow it or choose Not now

Allow continues with the requested action and remembers the permission for that service. Not now returns you to the app without starting that action. Selecting a photo alone does not upload it.

  3. Change your choice in Settings

Open Settings → AI & privacy. Under Sharing permissions, change Photos with OpenAI or Readings with Microsoft. Turning a permission off prevents future requests to that service until you allow it again. Turning it on asks you to confirm; it does not send a photo or reading by itself.

Saved readings still work

These permissions do not remove saved readings. Local reading and Apple's built-in listening remain available with both permissions off.

Retention and service records

Our service arrangements provide zero retention for the content sent to OpenAI and Immersive Reader. Saved readings remain on your device, and limited service records support membership checks, usage limits, and troubleshooting. The privacy notice explains these separately.
